How often should I take my pet to the vet?

In general, for relatively healthy adult pets, a yearly examination is ideal. Puppies or kittens, senior pets, pregnant pets, those with existing health issues, or those undergoing treatment may need more frequent visits as their cases require more assessment.

What should I bring with me to my pet’s veterinary exam?

For the most part, especially for your pet’s first checkup, we want to make the experience as pleasant as possible. Feel free to bring their favourite toys or treats with you to the appointment. If you need to bring anything else, rest assured we will give you instructions beforehand.

What happens during a routine veterinary checkup?

You and your pet will have a one-on-one consult with the veterinarian. Routine checkups usually consist of a “tip-to-tail” examination. This includes:

• Checking your pet’s breathing and heartbeat
• Assessing their weight and stance
• Going over their nails, feet, coat, limbs, eyes, teeth, etc. for any signs of health complications (e.g. infections, growths, swelling, damage, parasites)
• Conversation with the vet where you can share any concerns you may have about your pet’s well-being
